Business valuation by city and state
What a business is worth depends partly on where it is: who the buyers are, what the local economy runs on, and what the state adds to a sale. These pages cover that for one metro area at a time, using public data with a source beside every figure. They're useful whether or not you ever hire Saltaire.

Where the numbers come from
Population and age figures come from the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey. Counts of businesses by industry and size come from the Census Bureau's County Business Patterns. The largest-employer lists come from each state's labor-market office, or from the city's or county's annual financial report.
The state rules on each page, such as tax rates and clearance certificates, are taken from the state's own revenue and labor departments or its statutes. Each one links to the page it came from.
